GeoGebra Institute of Iran: Learning Mathematics by Making


In this event, we will talk about using supplemental educational tools like GeoGebra. We will look at how dynamic geometry software can improve geometry skills of students in guidance schools, based on a recent case study in an Iranian guidance school.

About Learning Math by Making


We believe optimal mathematics learning occurs when students get the opportunity to explore the world of math on their own, but in a quasi-guided environment. When students actively construct things in the learning environment, it helps them greatly to build knowledge. Hands-on activities are an example, writing computer programs is an example, painting is an example. This new knowledge enables them to create ever more sophisticated solutions, yielding more skills, more knowledge, and more challenges in a self-reinforcing cycle.

New learning opportunities are provided in technological environments. Additionally, the visualization of mathematical concepts and exploring mathematics in ICT-based environments can improve their understanding in a new way.

Ali Ghasempouri holds " Introduction to Geometry and Mechanics of Basic Machines" and Problem-Solving workshops for sixths to eighth grades. He is also the chairperson of the GeoGebra Institute of Iran. Ali conducts GeoGebra workshops for mathematics teachers in schools. Ali has BS degree in Applied Mathematics and is currently studying for MBA at PNU university of Tehran, Iran.
